“You ok?” he heard her asking and he just nodded while he swallowed a lump back down his throat. Looking around he felt an eerie feeling coming up. He didn't want to be here when slowly his memories started to flow back from what had happened. The gaps got filled up when he carefully walked around in this place, starting to feel nausea because of the memories he stopped for a second and rested against the wall.
Zoë followed his tracks and crossed her arms, looking at him she shook her head. “I don't get why they didn't tell you what happened.” He looked at her and he shrugged.
“They probably thought I couldn't handle it but then again I'm used that they treat me like that.” Chris closed his eyes and felt the nausea go away. He focused on something else before he opened up his eyes and looked around the cave once more. It was so awkward. He remembered being here and what had happened but why couldn't he remember what happened exactly to his sister.
In the meanwhile Zoë had wondered off and searched the place for some sort of clues. “Chris…” she started slowly when she crouched down next to a small piece of metal. “…you should see this.”
Walking over to her he crouched down next to her and staring at the object in her hand he frowned. It looked familiar but yet it didn't. “What is that?” He said picking it up from her hand. Studying it he frowned even more. The piece had some weird carvings in it and it was clearly broken off.
“What this might be, make it for us to see.” Chris said, casting the spell on the piece of metal. In a soft glow the metal shaped into a bracelet on his hand. “That's better…” He mumbled still not sure where he had seen it. Turning it around once more just to see if there was a hint of some sort to whom it belonged. “Tell me, does this look familiar to you?” He asked, showing the bracelet to Zoë. Taking it from him she turned it around like he did before and shaking her head slowly she gave it back. “Can't say I have but that doesn't mean anything. Maybe your attacker wore it and lost it during the fight.” Taking it from her, he just looked at it and nodded. “Maybe you're right…” He said slowly, hearing a sudden noise coming from behind them he quickly stood on his feet turning around to see who was behind them. Pulling Zoë behind him he squinted his eyes to see better in the darkness and when he saw a fireball hurling towards them he didn't think twice and ducked to the floor, pulling Zoë with him. Landing on top of her he made a gesture with his finger for her to be quiet. His heart speeding up he looked to the right from where the fireball appeared earlier. Lifting his body a bit so he wouldn't crush Zoë completely he kept his eyes focused on the black hole where their attacker might be. Laying still for a while like that just to make sure there wasn't going to be another fireball.
“Chris…” Zoë whispered softly. Looking at her he saw something in her eyes but he couldn't tell what. “Yeah?” he answered.
“Could you get off me now?” She said with a whisper again but with some amusement in her voice.
“Oh yeah sure, sorry. Just making sure we're ok…” Getting up he took her hand and helped her on her feet. “I think we should go back to your place and see what we can find on that bracelet.” Seeing her nod in agreement he orbed them out back to her place without noticing the little blush on Zoë's cheeks. Arriving there he immediately walked to her cabinet and pulled out a map and her scrying crystal. “You don't mind?” He said with a smile on his face, looking at her. “Go right ahead.” She answered with a smile back but Chris already spread out the map on the table. He was to busy to notice Zoë leave for the kitchen. The crystal swung in circles on the map but he had no luck. He kept trying and trying but from whomever this bracelet was they weren't in San Francisco. “This sucks…” He finally said dropping himself in a chair, resting his head in his hands he stared at the map and sighed.
Feeling a hand on his shoulder he looked up and returned the smile that was given him by Zoë. “Maybe I'm trying to hard.” He said to her, his gaze moving back to the map. “I just want to find her…” He said softly.
“I know you do and I want to find her too.” She gave him another smile. “But I think you should go to bed and take some rest. Look at it again tomorrow with a fresh mind, maybe you'll get new ideas.”
Sighing he knew she was right, he wasn't thinking clearly right now and sleep was probably something he needed the most right now. He needed to see things with a clear mind and at this moment thoughts were running through each other and making no sense to him. “Sleep sounds good.” He gave her a slight smile and stood up, making his way over to the couch. “You do know I have an extra room.” Zoë said blushing slightly knowing that her extra room was known as storage room but she had cleaned it out and made it an actual guest room. Chris frowned and changed his directions towards the extra room. Opening it up he laughed softly. “If I'll be damned. You can actually sleep in here. Look there's a bed and all.” He joked, suddenly feeling a pillow hitting the back of his head. Rubbing it he turned around with a huge grin on his face. “I was just joking…” but he had to duck for another incoming cushion. “I said I was joking.” He laughed harder quickly making his way in the room, closing the door behind him. Hearing a soft thud against the door he smiled glad she missed him again. Opening the door slightly he checked if the coast was clear. Seeing nothing he walked out of the room just to get a quick drink before sleeping. Walking past Zoë's bedroom he stopped in his tracks when he saw her standing there only wearing her panties. He knew he had to walk further but he couldn't, why he didn't know but suddenly he got snapped out of his thoughts when Zoë turned around and spotted him, holding her nightgown in front of her. Staring at him she closed the door using her telekinesis “Good night Chris.”
His cheeks red, feeling caught with his hand stuck in the cookie jar he continued his way to the kitchen. Why had he not walked further? Shaking his head he opened up the fridge and grabbed the juice box. Getting a glass he poured some in and placed the juice box back in the fridge. Downing it all at once he placed the glass in the sink and walked back to the room he could call his for now.
Closing the door behind him he took off his clothes and placed them on the chair next to the bed. Crawling underneath the sheets he sighed of relaxation. Zoë was right he did need sleep, closing his eyes it didn't take him that long to drift off in a deep sleep.
However his sleep was quite restless and he started to moan in his sleep. His forehead covered in sweat and the sheets falling from his chest to his waist. His dreams were starting to get nightmares and he moved his head from one side of the pillow to the other side. “No don't…” he mumbled. His legs were shifting and he moved his head again. “Watch out…” Squinting his eyes even more shut in his sleep he didn't hear the door slowly opening and a figure entering the room. “No…” he moaned again, moving his head restless on his pillow once more. The figure walks closer to the bed and as Chris is still moving his head restless on the pillow the figure stuck out a hand to calm him down but Chris suddenly woke up and seeing a hand coming his way he grabbed it pulling the person on the bed, throwing himself on top so the person couldn't escape from him.
His eyes adjusting better to the darkness and breathing deeply he stared in the eyes of the person who he thought wanted to attack him. “Zoë what are you doing here?”
“Checking up on you…” she said softly, her cheeks coloring slightly red. “…got some bad vibes from you that woke me up.”
Not making a quick motion to get off of her he scanned her face. “Bad vibes huh?” he said in a low voice, adjusting his body some to relieve pressure from Zoë's body. Expecting her to ask if he could get off of her but she didn't and he frowned slightly. “Aren't you going to ask me to move off you?” He finally asked her. Staring in her eyes he softened his grip on her arm he was still holding. “Erm I dunno do you want me too?” she asked her cheeks getting even more redder. Scanning her face he wasn't sure, did he want to? He didn't mind the position he was in right now. Knowing this he finally made the decision for the both of them, moving off her he spotted a minor disappointment on her face but he knew he had done the right thing for now.
“I'm sorry that I woke you up. Had a little nightmare.” Sitting against the head of the bed he rubbed his eyes, feeling the bed move softly he looked up. Zoë was sitting straight up and stared at him. “What?” He asked suspicious.
“A little nightmare he said. Dude I could hear, no feel you from a mile away.” She answered him shifting in a better position on the bed.
“It was a little nightmare. I can't even remember what it was about.” Chris said shrugging his shoulders. Zoë looked at him squinting her eyes suspiciously not completely buying what he just said. “You sure? It sounded quite intense.” She pushed a little more.
“Yeah I'm sure. No big deal I had nightmares before.” He gave her a smile to back up what he just had said to her.
“Ok then I'm going back to bed.” Standing up she ran her hand through her short red hair, giving him one final look. “See you in the morning.” Turning around she walked out the room, closing the door behind her. Staring at the closed door for a second, Chris slid down on the bed pulling the sheets back up. Propping an arm under his head he stared at the ceiling. Sighing he remembered perfectly what the nightmare was about but he didn't want to freak Zoë out and kept his mouth shut. How do you explain that you just dreamt that your closest friend died in your arms. Shivering slightly he turned on his side and closed his eyes, trying to catch some more sleep and hoping this time he wouldn't dream that vivid.

Slowly opening his eyes his blurry vision fell on the alarm clock on the night stand next to the bed. The red lights showing 11.30 am to him. Rolling on his back he rubbed his eyes to get the sleep out. Then he noticed somebody in the room with him. “Checking up on me again?” He said semi amused expecting to find Zoë in the room.
“Not quite…” He heard a dark voice grumble. Sitting up straight in bed he saw his brother leaning against the wall next to the door.
“Wyatt…” Chris said surprised. “How did you find me?”
“Not that hard actually. Zoë is a terrible liar and in case you didn't know you forgot to block out our senses so I actually already knew where you were.” Crossing his arms he stared at his younger brother.
Chris his face darkened and he swung his legs over the edge of the bed. Sitting there he glared at Wyatt. “What are you doing here?”
“You scared the shit out of mom you know but then again you probably didn't realize what you were doing, like always.” Wyatt said with some disapproval in his voice, looking down at Chris.
“Nice Wyatt, really nice. If you just came here to insult me then you can get the hell out.” He said in a low voice, his eyes starting to darken.
“I came to get you back home, the insulting is just a free ride.” Wyatt replied sarcastically. “Now get your stuff we're going.”
“I'm not leaving. In case you didn't know I'm old enough to do whatever I damn please to do.” Standing up defying his brother, a dangerous sparkle in his eyes. He wasn't going to leave not without finding out whatever happened in that cave and what happened to their sister.
“That's to bad because you still have to answer to mom and dad. Especially when you just ignore their wishes and take back your powers without consulting them first.” Wyatt took a step forward, grabbing Chris' clothes from the chair and throwing them at him. “Get dressed.” He said in a low growl.
“No…” Chris said stubborn throwing the clothes on the bed. “My powers and I can do with them what I want.”
“God damned Chris…NOW!” his voice booming through the room. “I have no time for this shit.”
“Well you never have time for me what else is new?” Chris said getting more angrier. “Just leave me alone. Go do whatever you have to do.” He snapped at him.
Now standing face to face they two brothers stared each other in the eyes. “Screw you Chris, screw you for being such a stubborn ass.”
“Well it takes one to see one.” Chris replied dryly, his eyes still filled with anger.
“I should beat the crap out of you.”
“Well what's stopping you?”
“Don't be a smart ass.”
“Better a smart ass then a thick head.”
Letting out a growl, Wyatt grabbed Chris at his shoulder throwing him on the bed. Pinning him down with his arm on Chris his throat and his right knee on his chest he stared in the face of his little brother. “Not so talkative now ey?” The door slammed open and Zoë not knowing what exactly was going used her telekinesis to get Wyatt off Chris. Falling against the closet door he banged his head hard.
“You bitch, don't meddle yourself into it. It's non of your fucking business.” Wyatt yelled angrily.
“It's my house. What right gives you to come in here and start attacking people? Your own brother for Christ sake.” Zoë yelled back, looking from Wyatt to Chris who was half leaning on his elbow catching his breath again.
“If he wasn't such a stubborn ass…” Wyatt started.
“Out now. If you find your senses back you can return. If not stay away.” Zoë stared coldly at Wyatt. Giving one last filthy look in the direction of Chris he orbed out leaving them alone. Letting out a big sigh she dropped to her knees. “Zoë!” Chris jumped off the bed and made his way over to her. Crouching down next to her he looked at her. “You ok?”
“Yeah I'm fine. His emotions were a bit to much for me.” She gave him a smile, standing up with his help she blushed again.
“You should get dressed. I'll make you breakfast.” Quickly letting go off him she rushed to the kitchen. Watching her leave he turned around and getting back in the room he realized he didn't have any fresh clothes or underwear. Concentrating hard he orbed himself a few clean sets of shirts, jeans and boxers. “That's better.” He mumbled grabbing a pair of boxers and heading for the shower. Turning on the taps of the shower he waited for the water to get the right temperature. Stepping out of his boxers he moved under the streaming water, closing the door of the cubicle so he wouldn't made a water ballet out of the bathroom. Letting the water run over his face he closed his eyes and enjoyed standing there for a few minutes when he felt being watched. Opening his eyes he spotted Zoë in the doorway. Staring at each other for a few seconds she coughed. “I erm wanted to know how you liked your eggs but that sounds like a lame excuse right now.” She said blushing, letting out a soft laugh. Turning off the taps of the shower Chris grabbed for his towel quickly rubbing his hair dry and then wrapping it around his waist. Stepping out of the shower he gave her a smile. “One side done.”
Seeing the look on her face he grinned. “My eggs, one side done.”
“Oh yes, the eggs.” Turning around again she made her way back to the kitchen not wanting to make the situation more awkward then it was.
Grabbing his boxers he made his way back to the bedroom deciding to get changed in their. Drying himself off better he changed into his clothes, not bothered by doing his hair he walked towards the kitchen where the smell of eggs and bacon tickled his taste buds. “Smells good.” He said with a smile leaning against the doorway. “It's the only thing I manage not to burn.” She replied with a smile.
“Go sit at the dining table. I'll bring it out in a minute.” Concentrating on the eggs again because she didn't want to burn them.
Leaving her he went to the lounge room slash dining room. Sitting down at the table where the cutlery was placed down and a mug filled with coffee he smiled when he saw his food coming his way. He was actually hungry and it smelled so good. Zoë placed the plate in front of him and took a seat across from him. Charging his plate he started to eat like he hadn't eaten in days and when he finished he let out a sigh of contentment. “That was good.” He smiled and he heard Zoë laugh. “What? It was good.” He said laughing back.
“I can tell.” Getting ready to stand up, Chris made a hand gesture for her to stay. “I'll do my own dishes. That's the least I can do for such a great breakfast.” He said giving her another smile. Standing up he took his plate and mug and walked to the kitchen. Placing his dishes in the sink he turned on the faucet to start cleaning his plate.
“Chris!”
Turning off the water he rushed back to the living room. “What's wrong?” He asked looking around the room for any attackers. “There's somebody here.” Zoë whispered to him. Making his way over to her he kept his eyes out if he saw something but there was nothing to see. “Where? I don't see it?” He whispered back.
“I'm telling you there's somebody here. I can feel it.” She said whispering through clenched teeth.
“But I don't see anybody.” Chris whispered back. Then Zoë grabbed his arm and what he felt next was indescribable. She was right there was an extra person in the room. He could feel three sets of emotions his, Zoë's and another but who was that third? Then suddenly he only felt his and Zoë's. The other one had left without showing itself. “I didn't know you could do that…” Chris said softly, staring at her. “I'm an empath. That's what I do channel emotions from others and if I'm up to it let others feel them.” Staring back at him their eyes locked.
Chris stared in her blue eyes and he still felt her hand on his arm and he wasn't sure if she knew that she was still sharing her emotions with him. Taking a little step closer to her, his heart started to beat a little faster. “How long are you feeling like that?” He asked her softly. Realizing what she was still doing she let go of him and broke free from his gaze. Staring down she took a step back. “Doesn't matter and no I don't want to talk about it.” Turning away from him she walked to her bedroom, closing the door shut making it clear that she wanted to be alone. Chris sighed not sure what to do with the information he just got from her, feeling confused he got the map out again. Spreading it on the table he took the scrying crystal and the bracelet and started to do what he had done over and over yesterday. His mind not in to it, thinking about something no somebody completely different. Putting the crystal down he looked up and stared at the closed door. Taking a deep breath he walked towards it. Knocking softly on the door he waited for a response. Not getting any he knocked again. “Zoë…”
“Go away Chris.” She yelled through the door.
“Come on Zoë we need to talk.”
“No we don't. I said that I didn't want to talk about it.”
Just orbing in he looked around in the room. She hadn't opened up the curtains or maybe closed them after entering. Squinting his eyes he tried to adjust to the darkness and when he looked again he saw Zoë curled up on her bed.
“Zoë..” He started but he jumped when she franticly turned around and stared at him angry. “What is it with you Halliwells and not listening?” Getting up she walked towards him. A little startled by her reaction Chris stepped back until he felt the door against his back. “I'm sorry…Have you been crying?” He looked at her face and he thought he saw her eyes being red from crying. “No I haven't well maybe a little but that's besides the point.” She said still mad and waving her finger at him.
“You have seriously stubborn issues not to mention listening problems…” She ranted further, pricking her finger in his chest. Grabbing her hand she stopped talking and he gave her a smile. “I already said sorry.” He said softly brushing her cheek with his other hand. “That's not fair…” she mumbled, staring in his green eyes. “What's not fair?” He asked curious, his thumb slowly caressing the palm of her hand.
“What you're doing, it's distracting me.” She answered, her heart skipping a few beats. “Don't play with me Chris.” She said softly, trying to step back but he wouldn't let her.
“I'm not playing with you. You should know that. You're the empath, you can feel it.” He answered her in a low voice, his own heart going a bit faster.
“I don't know what I'm feeling.” She mumbled, suddenly finding her hand on his chest. “Feel Zoë, feel.” He said growling softly, staring in her bright blue eyes. She did and what she felt frightened her but excited her at the same time. So much different emotions, struggles inside him she had never thought he would have. Letting go of him she breathed heavily. Staring at him, her eyes showing compassion and something he hadn't seen before or at least never noticed until earlier.
Just standing there in silence they stared at each other and when Chris decided that he had to take action he saw her taking a step back. Frowning he wanted to ask what was wrong but she moved her finger to her lips making clear for him not to talk. Pulling him back from the door she whispered in his ear that there was company in the living room. “The same…” he started whispering but she shook her head. Pulling her close to him he listened carefully and this time he could sense it too. “We have to get out of here before they find us.” He whispered again and nodding in agreement, Chris orbed them out just in time before the bedroom door got thrown open. “Damned Chris…” grumbling, as the person stared into the empty room.

“We need a protection spell for your apartment.” Chris said softly almost in a whisper. Staring at his coffee in front of him he sighed. They had been hiding out in Starbucks for almost 3 hours and in those hours they had not said a word to each other until Chris had enough of it. Looking up from her own coffee she gave him a smile. “How do we get one.” Glad the silence was gone for a while.
“I can think of something. It's not that hard.” He flashed her a smile.
“I know it's not hard and I trust you can come up with something.” Looking back at her coffee she sighed. “Is it safe to go back home?” Her eyes drifting quickly upwards to look at him before looking back at their previous point.
“Only one way to find out, come on.” Reaching out his hand he helped her up from her chair and they left the place. Going around the building, standing in the alley he pulled her close to him and orbed them back to her apartment. Standing in the bedroom where they were just before the door got thrown open he signaled her to stay there. Wanting to protest she saw that it had no use anyway so she stayed still and waited for Chris to come back. Walking slowly towards the doorway he stuck his head out carefully to see if there was somebody in the hallway. It was all clear and walking through it he entered the living room where nothing was to see. Clearly the person who was here before had left and given up on them coming back. “Zoë it's clear.” He said a bit louder. Looking at the table he noticed the bracelet gone and he cursed. How could he have left it their for grabs and now it was gone. Their only lead if it was actually a lead.
“They took it huh?” He heard next to him and he turned his head looking at Zoë. “Yeah it's gone. Let's get that protection spell up first before we get unwanted visitors again.”
Scraping his throat he thought for a minute before he started to recite a spell. “In this time and hour, I call upon the power to protect this house, to cloak it for even a mouse.” Watching how a glow emerged from his hand and spread out around the house like a force field. “That'll do.” He said smiling.
“A mouse?” Zoë said snickering.
“Hey no remarks on my spells. They always work.” He said giving her a slight push.
“Sure they always work. Do I have to remind you of a certain person turning into a dog with wings?” she said quickly walking away from him, laughing softly.
“That was an accident. You know that.” He said faking a grimace.
“Sure Chrissie whatever you say.”
“Hey watch it you.” He said trying to sound seriously. Making his way over to her she laughed and gave him puppy dog eyes. “I'm sorry Chris, I do believe you.” She said giggling.
“To late…” making a spurt towards her she let out a yell and ran away but luckily she wasn't that fast enough for him and he grabbed her around her waist, pulling her with him on the couch and for some reason he landed on top of her again. “Please have mercy.” She giggled again. Staring in her eyes he let out a laugh. “You should've thought of that before you mocked me.” Still on top of her and one arm wrapped around her waist he just looked at her and then he realized something.
“Chris…” she started but he placed a finger on her lips. Moving slowly towards her he brushed his lips against hers, kissing her. Feeling his heart beat rise and Zoë kissing him back he knew that this was what he wanted all along, he wanted her. Pulling back slowly out of the kiss he stared in her eyes. “Well that was interesting.” He said softly. “Yeah it was.” She replied her hand brushing his cheek softly.
Hearing a thud from above they both looked at the spot where it came from. Sitting up they heard another thud and another. It kept repeating over and over again until it finally went quiet. Zoë had found protection in Chris his arms, covering up her ears. “Told you the spell would work.” He said still staring at the ceiling, waiting if there would come more. Moving her eyes up towards his face, Zoë nodded. This had freaked her out and they shouldn't have waited to long with that spell. Who knows how many demons would've appeared in here to take them out. “What now?” She asked whispering. “Stay here?” Chris replied not sure if it was wise to go out. “And then what?”
“I don't know Zoë, I don't even know who's after us. Well mostly me maybe I should leave so they leave you alone.” Chris yelled of pain and rubbed his arm. “Why did you pinch me?” He said frowning and rubbing the painful spot.
“You're so not leaving me now. Are you insane? And I'm not so sure they are only after you.” Zoë said a bit mad.
“And what am I'm going to do when they find a way in here? Empath them to death? My telekinesis isn't that strong as yours Chris it will only keep them off for a short time. That with Wyatt was just luck because I tapped into his emotions but I can't do that to long either.” Standing up from the couch she wanted to walk away but Chris pulled her back onto his lap.
“I'll stay…” Staring in her eyes he gave her a smile. She was right if he left she was a walking target and he didn't know how long the spell would last against them.
There it was again a loud thud but this time it was different. Zoë cringed hearing the loud thud and Chris wrapped his arms around her. “It'll go away again…” He said whispering but he jumped slightly when there was knocking on the door. Zoë stood up and walked to the front door.
“I think he left…” but she hadn't say it or the person knocked again. Jumping back a few passes she placed her hand on her chest, her heart beat raising because of the startle. “…or not.” She finished her sentence. Chris joined her and listened at the door he could hear pacing around in the hallway but he couldn't tell who it was. “You really should get a spy thingy in your door.” He whispered towards her.
“Chris I know you're in there, open up the door.”
Standing tall again he looked at Zoë letting out a sigh. “It's Wyatt…” |
